Coin Challenge - Stone Wall

Do you readily recognize this stone wall? Do you know which US Mint coin contains this image? Stone walls exist on several US minted coins. Is this image part of a classic commemorative coin or a newer commemorative?

What is the coin? Is it silver, gold or another metal? Did the coin circulate or is it a commemorative coin? What is the denomination - a penny, nickel, dime, quarter, half dollar, dollar or another coin from early coinage? Is the design from the obverse or reverse of the coin? (Scroll down for hints.)

Greater Atlanta Coin Show Coin Challenge February 2012

Some hints for this Coin Challenge first posted on the atlcoin blog on January 23:

  1. This coin is a commemorative coin
  2. The image is on the reverse of the coin
  3. The image shows a rock wall
  4. The rock wall plays a secondary role and is not the main subject of the coin
  5. The excerpt helps showcase an historical icon from the nation’s infancy
