Coins - 1986 Prestige Set Certificate of Authenticity and Coin Specifications

Though the US Mint introduced a new look and size for the 1986 Prestige Set, their Certificate of Authenticity follows a similar format as the two earlier sets.

However the color and weight of the paper changed along with the color of the print.

In 1986, the Certificate of Authenticity was printed using blue ink on a gray paper slightly heavier than standard weight paper but not as heavy as card stock.

THE DIRECTOR OF THE UNITED STATES MINT
WASHINGTON, D.C. 20220

Dear Liberty Coin Owner:

In honor of the 100th Anniversary of the Statue of Liberty, the United States Mint has produced these proof coins in a unique Prestige Set. The set includes both regular coinage and coins commemorating the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. These 1986 strikings are the first government-issued coins ever to feature the Statue, and they are the only legal-tender coins that will be minted to assist with the restoration of these national monuments. A portion of the purchase price of this set will be used to help pay for the restoration, and to create an endowment for the future maintenance of these national treasures.

All seven of the coins were struck in proof condition at the San Francisco Assay Office. They have been produced with specially prepared dies and blanks to assure the highest quality, brilliant luster and magnificent detail. In addition to their intrinsic value, they afford you the opportunity to own a once-in-a-lifetime memento of the Liberty centennial celebration.

Each coin has been struck in accordance with the coin specifications mandated by law. On the reverse of this card you will find the specifications for each of the seven coins.

I am sure you will enjoy owning this historic Prestige Set.

Sincerely,
Donna Pope
Director
United States Mint
